Er zijn 23 bemanningsleden aan boord van het schip. Dat meldt de EU-missie die moet bijdragen aan de veiligheid op de West-Indische Oceaan en de Rode Zee. Het schip werd donderdag gekaapt ten noordoosten van Somalië, tussen de kustplaatsen Bandar Bayla en Hafun. Volgens het veiligheidscentrum zijn de piraten gewapend en is onduidelijk hoe de bemanning het maakt. De EU-missie waarschuwt dat het schip mogelijk als uitvalsbasis wordt gebruikt voor meer piraterij. Het nadert een commerciële scheepvaartroute, volgens de NOS Buitenland
